DIY Project: Transforming a Closet Pantry into a Stylish Dry Bar with Stock Cabinetry

Do you have an underutilized closet pantry that could serve a more functional and stylish purpose? With a bit of creativity and stock cabinetry, you can easily transform it into a trendy dry bar that adds a touch of sophistication to your home. In this step-by-step guide, we'll show you how to convert a closet pantry into a practical and eye-catching dry bar using readily available stock cabinetry. Get ready to reimagine your space and create a stunning focal point for entertaining!

Step 1: Clear and Measure the Closet Pantry:
Start by completely emptying the closet pantry and removing any shelves or other existing fixtures. Take accurate measurements of the interior space, including the width, height, and depth. These measurements will help you determine the appropriate size and configuration of the stock cabinetry you'll be using. For this specific project I did not want to keep the doors, so I removed them and patched the door frame. 

Step 2: Select and Purchase Stock Cabinetry:
Visit your local home improvement store or explore online options to find stock cabinetry that fits your desired style and dimensions. Look for base cabinets that will fit snugly within the closet pantry space. Consider the number of cabinets you'll need, as well as any additional features, such as drawers, shelves, or wine racks, to accommodate your specific needs. Choose a finish or color that complements your overall decor theme.

Step 3: Prep and Install the Cabinetry:
Before installing the stock cabinetry, remove doors, drawers, and hardware. Use a stud finder to locate and mark the wall studs inside the closet pantry. Securely attach the base cabinets to the wall studs using screws, making sure they are level and properly aligned. Connect the cabinets together using cabinet screws to create a seamless and sturdy structure. Reattach the cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware.

Step 4: Add Countertop:
To create a functional workspace for your dry bar, install a countertop over the stock cabinetry. Measure the dimensions of the cabinets and have a suitable countertop material cut to size. Popular options include butcher block, laminate, or quartz. Ensure the countertop is securely fastened to the cabinets using construction adhesive or brackets, following the manufacturer's instructions. We decided to temporarily use a wood countertop until we decide on a stone one. 

Step 5: Enhance the Aesthetics:
To give your dry bar a polished look, consider adding decorative elements. Install a backsplash using peel-and-stick tiles or mosaic sheets for easy installation. Paint or stain the cabinetry to match your desired color scheme. Install under-cabinet lighting to create ambiance and highlight the countertop. Additionally, consider adding open shelving or glass-front cabinets to display glassware, bottles, or decorative items. I used mirror tiles, purchased HERE on Amazon. Adhere to the wall using liquid nails. Its helpful to paint the wall black beforehand so that any space showing between mirrors is minimized. Step 6: Organization and Styling:
Maximize the functionality of your dry bar by organizing the interior. Use drawer dividers, shelf liners, and adjustable shelving to accommodate your specific storage needs. Arrange your glassware, bottles, and bar accessories in an appealing and functional manner. Add decorative touches such as artwork, a small mirror, or a stylish tray to create an inviting atmosphere.

Step 7: Final Touches:
To complete the transformation, add finishing touches to your dry bar. Consider installing a wine rack or a wine glass holder underneath the countertop for added convenience. Incorporate bar stools or chairs nearby to create a designated seating area. Finally, accessorize with decorative items such as cocktail recipe books, unique coasters, or personalized bar signs to personalize the space.
